What is the actual purpose of my life? In order to realize the answer to this most important question to become apparent with our own life, we need to try to connect with that part of our selves that is found in between the lines of the subconscious and the unconscious mind. The subconscious mind includes the conditioning of our ego self from the time of birth to around seven years of age. It may contain positive and negative information but becomes the basis that influences our actions and reactions throughout our entire life. This part of the mind also encompasses unpleasant circumstances that we have normally suppressed after the age of seven.
Our unconscious mind holds information relating to the nine months of gestation prior to our birth and most importantly the patterns that affect our thinking brought over from previous lifetimes. Our mind, complex as it is, is that subtle part of our self that continues to exist birth after birth and forms the identity of our ego, the "I" part of us. In reality we are not the ego or the mind. However, it is presently is the conditioned, programmed, or brainwashed state of mind that we perpetually relate to. It is actually an illusion but a necessary one in order to exist within a body.
The present egotistic life is based on two assumptions forming our identity that we have previously discussed. One is our subconscious conditioning and the other is the unconscious programming that affect who we think we are. In this way we may actually have no conscious control of our life force due to the karmic effects before we were born with, early childhood conditioning and the stuff that we normally repress throughout of our lifetime - unconscious programming and subconscious conditioning. However, it's really not as hopeless as it seems. This conditioning of our mind can either create resistance to esoteric spiritual ideas or influence positive change in our ordinary everyday thinking process.
Our mature mind can still function progressively as it responds to present circumstances within our present dualistic environment. (hot and cold, light and dark, pleasant or unpleasant, etc., etc., etc.) Our brain functions similar to a computer and uses duality to its advantage. Our freedom of choice allows us to make decisions by either accepting or rejecting stimuli to our senses, including our mind, which processes a constant supply of questions and answers (is it good or bad, what do I desire now, can I make more money - etc., etc., etc.? However we don't need to necessarily accept our present conditioned state as our ultimate reality. The computer in our head can be reprogrammed to our advantage. Many don't accept this (they are sometimes called religious, atheist, agnostic or skeptic) and carry on with their lives just fine. In fact, although as comfortable as may seem, it is not recommended to totally accept our temporary life as reality if we truly desire to understand the purpose of life.
In order to break free of the mind's hold over our life and thinking, we have two choices. One is to understand more about the nature of our very being and try to discover the purpose of life, or go back to spiritual slumber, as it were. Obviously there are very few that have the chita or spiritual intelligence to rise above ordinary materialistic awareness. Life is actually an evolution in consciousness and it may take many years or even lifetimes to realize this.
Progressive consciousness is the catalyst for evolutionary change - it is not that biology instigates change. Biology only evolves within species due to our innate desire for freedom from lesser suffering conditions. Human reason is the result of evolutionary progress. Be this as it may, many of us may now be ready to make the most important discovery in the evolution of mankind. That discovery is that we are neither the body nor mind, but an ever-existent individual spark of conscious life that is uniquely us, and at the same time connected to the Source of everything - call it God, Source, Universe or many, many other names. As many labels as you might ascribe to this Source, there are also many ways to discover the purpose of life.
I will recommend below one of the most very powerful methods of self-discovery known as japa or mantra meditation. This type of methodology, other than reflective mediation, will become the next catalyst of evolutionary progress and will further not only the advancement of mankind in its quest for technical and spiritual knowledge but will ultimately become the source of our own liberation from suffering, death and re-birth.
In the same way we experience a dream when we sleep as an out-of-body experience, our life during the day is only another more vivid type of dream that includes an in body experience. This is where we typically exist and carry on with our mental and physical activities. This daydream, experienced as "reality" to our body and mind, feels comfortable and safe enough for most. There is no apparent problem living here on earth in our body, except that it is temporary and exhausting in the long run. However, we are, in reality, a completely conscious entity and have the capacity to solve all of our problems, but only if we go beyond the mind. This does not mean we change who we are or even our external conditions. We need to enhance our thinking process to include information that cannot be understood with the ordinary mind.

This knowledge is learned from those who are expert in this field. It is the same as being educated in any subject but it is not considered theoretical or philosophical. It is practiced and applied in everyday life. There is actually no extreme effort in the implementation. If done correctly, results will happen automatically. However there is effort required in learning and practice. It is called sadhana. Application is through sound vibration using specific mantras given by the teacher. These mantras act as channels through the either and connect us to the akashic information that is contained within the inner world. This info is spiritual by nature and belongs to God. A reverent and grateful attitude is required in order for the channel to remain open. If not, the channel becomes broken and the mantras become merely words. The information is imbibed through pure spiritual sound. You will start to understand what is already present within your own being but is now covered or distorted by our own mundane mind and thoughts. The mantras also act to dissolve the subconscious and unconscious conditioning that prevent us from further understanding.

Specific mantras, when used correctly, help free the mind from ordinary mundane consciousness. Therefore, when we repeat them, the vibration is not only important to consider but a proper understanding of the esoteric meaning enhances the experience. In this way, we not only hear and feel the vibration within our mind and body but the emotional quality stimulates the seven energy fields within our body - starting with our first chakra, known as muladhara, the abode of Ganesh. The living subtle energetic substance that connects us is actually within us. It is sometimes known as kundalini shakti and eventually leads to a complete spiritual awakening. As you may begin to understand, the channels you open by mantra meditation connect you to the actual places where the Gods and Goddesses, in charge of our existence on earth, reside. This is where the secret knowledge of the universe originates. It is not a secret though to those who are ready to progress in their personal evolution in consciousness. This is the purpose of life for which we were all born.
